B+L Studies Show Satisfaction With Lens Solution, Contact Lenses

Bausch + Lomb (B+L) has reported positive results from studies designed to gauge patient satisfaction with the company’s Biotrue contact lens solution and its PureVision 2 and Biotrue OneDay contact lenses.

Speaking to Primary Care Optometry News (PCON), B+L’s medical affairs director for North America, Mohinder Merchea, shared details of two contact lens solution studies. The first one involved 140,000 patients who used various other solutions and all types of contact lenses. After switching to Biotrue solution, eight out of every nine participants expressed a preference for Biotrue. The second study featured 93 participants with a strong tendency to give up on contact lens wear. This study lasted for two weeks and the subjects continued to wear their usual lenses but used the Biotrue solution. When the experiment concluded, 80% of the sample said they would not give up on contact lens wear. Six months later, 94% of that group were found to still be wearing contacts, Merchea said.

B+L brand managers Megan Schneider and Jennifer Johnston also reported on the results of two contact lens studies. Schneider said that in the first study PureVision 2 lenses were fitted on 34 patients, 80% of whom decided to stick with the product as a result of their positive experience. In a separate study involving Biotrue OneDay, feedback was received through an online survey. A total of 90% of users expressed satisfaction with the lenses, while 80% declared themselves likely to recommend the product, Johnston told PCON.
